My Homemade Eye Tube Tester 2008-02-28T23:03:04.000Z | old64goat
I built this in 2002 to test those EYE tubes, those green glow tuning indicator tubes you find in some antique radios. You can't just plug an eye tube in a tube tester and if the tester shows "good" that does NOT mean that it IS good. The tube tester can't apply the plate/target with the 150-165 volts needed to light up the target phosper green. Check out my video and I will explain why and show you how to make your own "Eye" tester.

First off, this is dark. It is also the very first time I have ever used a camcorder. I zip and zoom around so much, it may make one dizzy. The camcorder is a JVC Video Movie GR-C7U which was the very first VHS-C model to have a CCD pickup. It also has 15 LUX minimum illumination which accounts for the darkness. Yay for 1986 camera technology! (converting to an MP4 also seems to have darkened it a bit) This is a quick video of my antique radio collection as it was in December 1986. Two bedrooms, the garage and a few in the livingroom. You also get a glimpse of my mother doing her hair as a bonus! My HAM station can be seen in the first room as well as my workbench in the garage. I must have just cleaned it as it normally was NOT that clean and straightened up! Oh, and I was 19 years old at the time!

I got these old radios at a local auction on 1-1-10 in Moorhead, I paid $25..00 for two. The salmon colored radio works but the littie westinghouse needs to be repaired.

People have been asking me when I will be setting up another shop. This video tells it all, also on this video is some goodies left over that I will be showing. To tell you frankly I just have no answer as to when I will get this all cleaned out. I can't do it myself, as I get older the knees are getting worse and doing the stairs is a big problem. At the new location where I am supposed to set up shop, well that is on the 2nd floor and will be a problem. I have other personal health issues that are more important now. I love this hobby and perhaps I can get it going again someday. Thank you all for your interest, I appreciate it.

Radiola 17 Manufactured Sept 1927 By RCA 2009-09-26T22:57:25.000Z | maynardcat
This was rca's first radio designed to play on AC current. It is a nuetrodyne type radio present day AM radio is Superheterodyne. Original price in 1927 was 130.00 without tubes, which I thought was an unusual way to sell a radio. The radio was rebuilt and reconditioned a few years ago. It has only an on off switch volume and tuning indicator, no tone controls. It is in great condition for its age. It has a couple of stickers on two of the tubes that were replaced. It says warranty expires in 1939. They are Wizard tubes from Western Auto. The cabinet is mahogany , is in very nice original condition with very few scratches, and has no dust or dirt inside at all. The speaker looks brand new. It plays very well, but the station frequency range is a little odd compared to the AM radios of today. The speaker case is metal, and both the radio and speaker are very heavy.

Vintage Westinghouse Radio After Repairs 2010-02-19T05:45:28.000Z | chrisstv1979
This is the repaired vintage Westinghouse Radio. I got it along with a philco radio at an auction. I replaced the paper caps with new ones and the radio now works well. Still needs cleaning.

This is yet another radio I recieved in a box from a friend who wanted me to enjoy it. Its a beatiful wooden case solid state Zenith clock long distance radio. Repair simply involved re-soldering wire to Volume Pot because the joint had gone bad, causing intermittent cut out.
